2017 Summer Reading Program

Word of the Month

Obelisk

Define the word and where it originated. All work must be completed in the library using library materials – no computers. If your answer is correct, you will be entered into a drawing to win a free large, plain pizza from Village Pizza.

Summer Programs

Resident registration begins for all programs on Thursday, June 1st.

Nonresident registration will be available 1 week prior to each program. Visit or call to register.

Soro-Bindi is an exciting, interactive performance that incorporates traditional Ghanaian dances, songs, stories and explanations of Ghanaian culture.

2:00pm: STACK FAST WITH GLENN COSTELLO: entering grades 2-6

Learn the art of Sport Stacking (also known as cup stacking) and how to master the 2 and 6 stack. Play fun games to increase your agility, cardiovascular, and muscular systems.

2:00pm: TURTLE DANCE: MUSIC, BUBBLE & COMEDY SHOW: all ages

This show is crafted to be inclusive for all children including children on the Autism Spectrum. Kids will play instruments, try out interactive music technology and dance along through the whole show.

Puppeteer Jim "Nappy" Napolitano and his shadow puppets present some of the greatest sing-a-long songs of all time.

Climb on board to explore town vehicles. Program will be located at the upper parking lot of the Silas Deane Middle School. No registration is required.

A thrilling action-packed adventure about a crew of quirky pirates marooned on a desert island. throughout the story, volunteers from the audience will help explore the incredible science behind clouds, combustion, air pressure and more.

A multi-media interactive extravaganza in which sound is transformed through a 5 string electric violin & modern technology. 3-D sound waves become visible! from Bach to today, music literally comes to life before your very eyes & ears!

2:00pm: MASK-MAKING WITH THE BALLARD INSTITUTE: entering grades K-2

Students will make masks out of simple materials, practice expressing emotions without words, and have a chance to share their creations with the group.

6:00pm:HORIZON WINGS: all ages

Experience teh thrill of being up close to a magnificent eagle and other birds of prey. Learn about their lives, habits and ways to protect them.

2:00pm: ARTIQUE: PAINT AFTERNOON: 7-12 year olds

Kids will follow along in creating their own version of a lizard at night.

August 14th

2:00pm:CREATE ROD PUPPETS WITH THE BALLARD INSTITUTE: entering grades 3-6

build a rod puppet out of simple materials. Learn the basics of how to manippulate them to express emotions and tell stories.

10:30am: READING ROCKS WITH PETE THE CAT AND AL DECANT: all ages

A highly interactive family musical performance that promotes the joy of reading. The show is packed with toe tapping music and great stories.

6:00pm: FAMILY FORT NIGHT: GRAND FINALE: all ages

Visit the library after hours and build a family fort to read in. Bring a flashlight and blankets or sheets good for fort building.
